Haskell County, TX – Amanda Stoffels and her husband bought a farm when they got married. They were living their dream raising cattle, but they were still working day jobs to make ends meet. When they first signed a lease agreement with a solar developer, it was bitter-sweet: enough money to quit their day jobs but they thought it was the end of farming on their land as they knew it. Tears welled up in Amanda's eyes when they took down their fencing.

Then, a neighbor, who had also leased their land for solar, told Amanda she didn't have to give up their sheep. In fact, the sheep have a job on the solar farm. They graze on the native grasses beneath solar panels, keeping the vegetation from growing high and interfering with the solar arrays. It's a win-win approach: the sheep maintain the vegetation, making sure the solar panels are working at their best, while the solar farms provide steady, non-polluting income. It's a shift in the way farming has always been done: embracing renewable energy while still nurturing the land.

Now, instead of working a day job and not quite making ends meet with a cattle farm, Amanda tends to hundreds of sheep on her acres of land, realizing a new version of her dream where she melds traditional agriculture with modern renewable energy, ensuring a bright future for her farm and still living their dream of working the land.
